WHAT’s ACUPUNCTURE ALL ABOUT?
Acupuncture is an ancient healing tool that promotes the body's ability to heal itself. The technique of inserting one-time uses needles into specific points on the body to regulate the body's internal organs. The process of acupuncture is to insert small thinner than hair needles into the skin. Acupuncture is one of the modalities that fall under Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Needling these points can help promote healing and prevent disease. Acupuncture is based on the theory that the body is connected by meridians. These meridians are like pathways on the body that are like maps. These maps called meridians can help an acupuncturist identify which parts of the body are out of balance and use it to restore optimal health. Most acupuncture points are inserted very shallow into the body and is a a very safe practice when performed by a licensed practitioner.
The process of acupuncture is to revitalize the energy in the body to promote its own healing mechanism. According to these principals, there are three ways that we can look at what these needles do. The first is harmonizing the body. Sometimes our systems are just a little bit out of place, and the body needs a gentle push to get things moving to restore the balance in the body. The second is removing the excess. This process is taking what we may have too much in our body and promoting it to flush it out. Nowadays, this process can typically be referred to as detoxing. According to TCM, this isn't quite the same. A detox may force things out of the body, these tiny needles promote the body's natural ability to rid of things that aren't so great in our body.
